6-8 weeks out: set a real rent budget
Most Yukon renters aim to keep rent plus utilities near 30% of take-home pay. Yukon runs noticeably cheaper than central Oklahoma City, so the same budget usually buys more square footage here. At Charlemagne, 1-bedroom plans start at $750/month and 4-bedroom plans top out at $1,150/month.
Budget for more than rent: a security deposit, any pet deposit or pet rent, electric service setup, renters insurance, and moving-day costs. Writing those down early prevents surprises the week you sign.
4-6 weeks out: gather your paperwork
- Photo ID for every adult who will sign the lease
- Recent pay stubs or an offer letter showing income
- Current and previous landlord contact information
- Employer name, address, and phone
- Emergency contact details
Having these ready is the single biggest difference between an approval that takes a day and one that drags for a week.
3-4 weeks out: tour in person
Photos only tell you so much. Walk the actual floor plan, check water pressure, open closets, and look at where your car will park at 9pm. Ask what's included, how maintenance requests are handled, and how fast they're answered.
At Charlemagne we take maintenance requests online and route them straight to our on-site team — worth asking any property you tour how their process works.
2 weeks out: utilities and address changes
- Set up electric service in your name for your move-in date
- Order internet installation — schedules fill up fast at month-end
- File a change of address with USPS
- Update your driver's license address and voter registration
- Transfer or start renters insurance
Move-in week
Book movers or a truck for a weekday if you can; weekends and the first of the month are the most expensive and most crowded times to move in the OKC metro.
On key day, photograph every room before you unpack. It takes ten minutes and protects your deposit at move-out.
